The automatic start of an IPCS at IPL time is desirable, so there is no need to remember the manual start of it after IPL.

Starting with V4R5, there is no Online at IPL parameter when handling network server descriptions anymore. How to make it start anyway?

Solution

The solution is given in Implementing Windows NT on the Integrated Netfinity Server, PDF page 75:

You need to configure TCP/IP so that the Network Server Description is automatically varied on when you start TCP/IP. In V4R5, TCP/IP startup is already part of the IPL process.

To set up online with TCP/IP, perform these steps:

  1. Type CFGTCP on an AS/400 command line and press Enter.
  2. Select option 1 and press Enter.
  3. Type a 2 in the Option column next to the interface for the server internal LAN line and press Enter.
  4. Type *YES for the Automatic start parameter and press Enter.
