MacTwin from Andrew Corporation is one of the IBM Midrange related products from this company.

It is a combo of a Twinax Interface Card, the necessary adapter to the actual Twinax Cabling, with accompanying software. It enables the usage of all seven available addresses on a Twinax Bus to emulate either a 5250 terminal, or a Twinax Printer. The actual Software is dated ©1994.

Features

The Software itself is split into components:

  • The Terminal Emulator, InterAxcess.
  • A Control Panel for setting the address type (Terminal or Printer), and routing Twinax addresses to either the local Client Software, or the AppleTalk Network.
  • The Networking Code, either Client, or Server.

It is important to note that the Network Server function is not available with the MacTwin Card.[1]

The Control Panel lets you choose between the following 5250 terminal types:

  • 5251-11

  • 5292-1
  • 3179-2
  • 3196

  1. MacMidrange™ Installation Guide, page 42 states: AppleTalk check boxes. The AppleTalk check boxes enable a NetAxcess workstation to be available on an AppleTalk network. These check boxes will not function if you have installed MacTwin card. Thus there is no way to make available on the AppleTalk network the faster transfer speed of a Twinax Connection compared to a serial SDLC Connection, being limited to 19200 bps.
